Mission


The mission of the Percy L. Julian High School is to provide a quality educational program that is conducive to learning. Our collaborative task is to develop and implement innovative curricula that is designed to enhance student achievement, improve academic skills and stress critical thinking and problem solving techniques in the acquisition of knowledge.

 
Vision


In recognition of the legacy of Dr. Percy Lavon Julian, renowned research chemist, the vision of Percy L. Julian High School is to create a student centered learning environment that is stimulating, challenging and conducive to learning. The learning climate and culture will promote collaborative, cooperative processes and experiences that empower all stake holders to work together to achieve priority goals and ensure that all students receive a quality education.


Goals 
 
The goal of the Percy Lavon Julian High School is to be responsive to student needs by providing students with a repertoire of knowledge that is transferable; promotes academic, technical and social development; and prepares students for future educational endeavors and career opportunities designed to enhance their quality of life.
 
  • Increase students' reading, mathematics, problem solving and decision-making skills by developing and implementing a sequential curriculum that is aligned with Illinois and Chicago Public Schools learning outcome standards and goals.
  • Continue to develop and implement a curriculum focused staff development program that emphasizes innovative teaching methods and strategies, use of technology to enhance instruction, learning multiple assessment methods, and enrich subject content area.
  • Maintain the school-within-a-school (small school) organization structure to promote a safe, clean, disciplined environment that communicates high expectations and socialization; as well as fosters good attendance habits, academic achievement, collaboration, and cooperation between parents, students, community and staff.  
  • Develop and implement an instructional program that prepares students to read, write and speak well, as well as increase students' ability to perform at or above national norms on standardized tests of achievement.
Priority Goals
  • Mathematics/Science/Technology: Increase opportunities for students to take advanced courses in mathematics, science and technology.
  • Professional Development: Provide professional development activities and opportunities for teachers.
  • Attendance/Parent/Community Involvement: Increase student and staff attendance and increase parent community partnerships and predication in the school.
