Mrs. Alahrie Aziz-Sims - Beta House Ms. Donna Serio - Alpha House Mr. Ihechi Abu Sadiki - MainOffice
Mrs. Alahrie Aziz-Sims has worked in both the Memphis City Schools and Chicago Public Schools systems. She has worked as an English teacher at all grade levels in high school, but has spent the majority of her classroom time teaching standardized level courses where she has been successful in improving student achievement. In addition, she has held several leadership roles from department chair to SIPAAA coordinator. Most recently, Ms. Alahrie Aziz-Sims worked on the Area level as a literacy coach. The focus of her work has been to improve student learning through the development of CRS aligned curriculum, the use of formative and interim assessments, and a continuous focus on data. Ms. Aziz-Sims is currently working on completing her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction: Literacy, Language, and Culture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her focus is on adolescent literacy, and she is currently researching the relationship between reading fluency and writing fluency. We are pleased to add Ms. Aziz-Sims to our staff as Assistant Principal/Teaching and Learning.
Ms. Donna Serio began her career with the Chicago Public Schools as an English and reading teacher. She has taught at the elementary, middle school and high school levels and is an experienced administrator having served as an evaluation coordinator, case manager and department chair before assuming the role as Assistant Principal at Durso School in Chicago. Ms. Serio has also served as a Special Education Regional Liaison, LRE Administrator for the Chicago Public Schools, Area 25 Instructional Coach, and most recently as Citywide Instructional Coach with the Office of Specialized Services. Ms. Serio earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education at Western Illinois University and Masters of Science Degrees in Social & Emotional Behavior Disorders and Educational Administration at Northeastern Illinois University. Ms. Serio has completed the course work toward a doctorate in Urban Leadership at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a year long Principal Internship at DuSable High School. Her dissertation focuses on the leadership factors that influence successful outcomes for students with disabilities. We are pleased to add Ms. Serio to our staff as Assistant Principal/ Specialized Services and Student Support.
Mr. Ihechi Abu Sadiki has been a member of the Percy L. Julian staff for eight years. He has served the school primarily as a disciplinarian and social science teacher. Mr. Sadiki has worked throughout the school as a member of the SIPAAA team, coordinating ongoing services for at-risk students; as co-coordinator for Summer School Programs; National Honors Society advisor and sponsor of the Gentlemen of Julian and the Know Your Heritage Team. He was also one of the faculty leaders of the Student Development team. Mr. Sadiki served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm! Desert Shield. He also served as ESPN Zone Administrative Assistant and Assistant Comptroller. Mr. Sadiki attended Chicago State earning a Bachelors Degree and majored in United States History. He earned a Masters of Arts Degree from Roosevelt University, majoring in United States History and this year completed his Masters of Arts at Chicago State in Education Administration. We are very happy to select one of Julian's own to become a member of this leadership team to increase school safety and to build a culture and climate of support and success for both students and staff. Mr. Sadiki will assume the role of Assistant Principal/Disciplinarian and Student Development.
